About
Dr. Wei-Qi Wei is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Computer Science at Vanderbilt University, where he also serves as the Scientific Director of the Precision Phenotyping Core. He holds an M.D. from Peking Union Medical College and a Ph.D. in Health Informatics from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Wei is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in high-throughput phenotyping, where he develops AI and natural language processing (NLP) tools to extract research-quality insights from massive Electronic Health Record (EHR) datasets. His research, which has produced widely adopted tools like PheMAP and MEDI, focuses on enabling precision medicine by uncovering genetic relationships between common diseases and drug responses. A Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA), he leads several NIH-funded initiatives aimed at making clinical data more machine-processable to accelerate biomedical discovery and drug repurposing.
