About

Prof. Dr. Stefan Wagner is a full professor of Software Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he leads the Informatics Heilbronn 3 – Chair of Software Engineering at TUM Campus Heilbronn. He completed his doctorate in computer science at TUM in 2007 after studying computer science in Augsburg and Edinburgh and psychology in Hagen. Before returning to TUM in 2024 as a full professor, he served as Professor of Empirical Software Engineering at the University of Stuttgart, where he was Dean of Studies and Speaker of the Artificial Intelligence Software Academy (AISA). Prof. Wagner’s research focuses on improving how we build software—spanning software quality, human factors, AI‑supported engineering, automotive and AI‑based systems, and empirical studies with strong industrial relevance. He has published extensively (well over 100 peer‑reviewed articles), authored the book Software Product Quality Control, and received several prestigious awards including recognition as a Class of IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor and multiple best paper awards at international conferences. In addition to research and teaching, he serves on editorial boards of leading journals in software engineering and holds senior membership in ACM and IEEE.
