About

Vaskar Raychoudhury joined the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering in January 2018. Before joining Miami, Dr. Raychoudhury served more than 6 years as an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, since 2011. After completing his M.S. in Information Technology from IIT Kharagpur in India, he moved to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to pursue his Ph.D. in Computing. He completed several funded research projects for NOKIA Research Centre Beijing and Hong Kong Government Research Grants Council (RGC). After his Ph.D. graduation in 2010, Dr. Raychoudhury moved to Paris with the responsibility of handling a large research project on Mobile Social Networks funded by the European Union Framework Program 7 (EU FP7). Dr. Raychoudhury was a post-doctoral research engineer working in the Institute Telecom SudParis, in France for the large part of 2011 and was leading their team in the SOCIETIES project. At the end of 2011, he joined IIT Roorkee and continuously served until May 2016 when he was honored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany as a post-doctoral research fellow and spent the next year in the University of Mannheim, Germany as a Humboldt Fellow. He was one of only 9 research fellows selected in Computer Science in 2015 across 190 countries worldwide. In the meantime, he was also elevated by the ACM and IEEE societies to the prestigious Senior Member grade. He received the DAAD-IIT Fellowship for Bi-lateral Academic Exchange and spent the summer of 2015 in TU Darmstadt in Germany. Dr. Raychoudhury is actively working Pervasive and Mobile Computing, Wireless Sensor Networks, Delay-Tolerant Networks, Internet of Things, Indoor Localization, Social Networks, Next-Generation Networks, and Crowd-sourcing. He is extremely interested in making sure that the benefits of technological developments actually reach the needy portion of society. He has developed several smart healthcare solutions for elderly individuals for remote health monitoring. He has also developed several smart traffic management solutions with special focus on reducing environmental impacts. He is eager to solve challenging and practical problems on the smart technology domain using smart handheld devices and sensor technology. Dr. Raychoudhury organizes several workshops and special sessions in various conferences in his area. He serves as technical program committee member IEEE Percom, IEEE Globecom, ICDCN. He is also in the editorial board of Elsevier Journal of Networks and Computer Applications (JNCA) which is a leading publishing venue for peer-reviewed journal articles.
