Nilanjan Banerjee is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where he also serves as the Director of the Center for Research in Emergent Manufacturing (CREM). His research focuses on Mobile and Embedded Systems, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), and Physiological Monitoring, with a specific emphasis on designing end-to-end hardware and software solutions for healthcare and industrial safety. Dr. Banerjee is an Associate Director of Cybersecurity in Manufacturing at UMBC, investigating ways to secure supply chains and manufacturing processes through Data-Driven Digital Twins. A recipient of the NSF CAREER Award and the Microsoft Research Software Engineering Innovations Award, he is also a prolific entrepreneur, serving as the co-founder and CEO of Tanzen Medical and the Chief Scientific Officer of LifePlus, Inc. His lab's recent work includes developing non-intrusive sensors for detecting distracted driving and using wearable devices to monitor cortical arousals and sleep quality.
