Lyle Ungar is a Professor of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds additional appointments in Psychology, Bioengineering, and the Wharton School. A central figure in Computational Social Science, Dr. Ungar’s research focuses on developing scalable Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics methods to understand the psychology of individuals and populations. He is a co-founder of the World Well-Being Project (WWBP), an interdisciplinary initiative that analyzes social media language to predict personality traits, mental health status (such as depression), and physical health outcomes (including heart disease) with remarkable accuracy. His work frequently bridges the gap between deep learning and the human sciences, investigating the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) for behavioral change and positive psychological interventions.
