Dr. Luu is a faculty member, the Director of the Computer Vision and Image Understanding (CVIU) Lab, and Quantum AI Lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Arkansas (UA), Fayetteville. He is a recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER, NSF SCH, NSF DEB, NSF SBIR Phases 1-2 awards, and the National Academy of Inventors, University of Arkansas Chapter 2024. He is affiliated with the Center for Public Health and Technology at UA and the NSF MonARK Quantum Foundry. He serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Quantum Engineering (TQE) and the Multimedia Tools and Applications Journal, Springer Nature. He also serves as the Area Chair in IEEE/CVF CVPR 2023-2025, NeurIPS 2024-2025, ICML 2025, WACV 2025, ICLR 2025-2026, AAAI 2026, and Quantum Week 2025. He was the Research Project Director at the Cylab Biometrics Center at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), US. He led the team to develop successful AI frontier research and applications, including Generative AI Learning, Multi-modal Learning, Video Understanding, Quantum-Brain, 2D-Quantum Material Recognition, fMRI Vision-Brain Learning, AI-based Early Autism Detection, Facial Micro-Expression Recognition, Smart Insect Monitoring System, Face Recognition (Top Ranking in NIST Face Recognition Vendor Test in 2020), Multi-camera Multi-Object Tracking, Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Long-range Biometrics and Soft Biometrics Systems, Perception System for Autonomous Car Driving. He teaches Full-stack Deep Learning, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (CSCE4613/5613), Computer Vision (CSCE5703), Image Processing (CSCE 5683), Algorithms (CSCE4133/5133), and Advanced Data Structures (CSCE4263) courses in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. His research interests focus on various topics, including Smart Health, Precision Agriculture, Quantum Machine Learning, Multi-Object Tracking, Human Behavior Understanding, Scene Understanding, Face Recognition, Domain Adaptation, Image and Video Processing, Deep Learning, and Compressed Sensing. He has received seven patents and three Best Paper Awards, and has co-authored over 120 papers in conferences, technical reports, and journals. He was the Technical Program Chair at the IEEE GreenTech Conference 2024 and a co-organizer and chair of the CVPR Precognition Workshop in 2019-2025, the MICCAI Workshop in 2019 and 2020, and the ICCV Workshop in 2021. He was a PC member of AAAI, ICPRAI in 2020, 2021, and 2022. He was a Vice-Chair of the Montreal Chapter of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society in Canada from September 2009 to March 2011.
