Jens Mache was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. As an undergraduate student, he studied computer science at the University of Karlsruhe/ KIT (Vordiplom in 1992). After completing a Master’s degree at Southern Oregon University in 1994, he became a PhD student at the University of Oregon (PhD completed in 1999, advisor Virginia Lo). In 1998, he became Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. In 2004, he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. And in 2010, he was promoted to Full Professor. From 2013 to 2016, he is the chair of Mathematical Sciences (math & CS).
