About
James Hook, Ph.D., is a Professor of Computer Science in the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University, where he also serves as the Associate Dean for International Partnerships. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Washington. Dr. Hook’s academic work spans areas in computer science education and research, and he has played a key role in building capacity for effective and inclusive computer science teaching at the secondary and post-secondary levels, including collaborations across academic institutions in Oregon. He joined Portland State University in 2004 and has been actively involved in departmental leadership, curriculum development, and scholarly activities that support both students and faculty in the computing disciplines.
