Georg Stadler
About
Georg Stadler is a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, having joined the faculty in 2014. His research is at the leading edge of applied mathematics and scientific computing, with a specialized focus on inverse problems, PDE-constrained optimization, and uncertainty quantification. Dr. Stadler develops scalable algorithms for complex, large-scale physical systems, often applying his work to societally critical areas such as climate modeling (including sea and land ice), geophysics, and plasma physics. His technical contributions have been widely honored; he is a co-recipient of the 2015 Gordon Bell Prize for his work on extreme-scale implicit solvers and received the 2019 SIAM Computational Science and Engineering Best Paper Prize. Before NYU, he was a research scientist at the Oden Institute at UT Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Graz in Austria.
