Daqing He
About
He Daqing is a Professor and the Department Chair of Informatics and Networked Systems in the School of Computing and Information at the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds a secondary affiliation with the Intelligent Systems Program, an interdisciplinary unit focused on artificial intelligence. Dr. He directs the Information Retrieval, Integration and Synthesis (IRIS) research lab, where his work centers on advancing how humans access and interact with large-scale, heterogeneous information collections. His research is deeply rooted in Interactive Information Retrieval (IIR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), with a specific emphasis on creating "synergistic" systems where intelligent technologies assist rather than replace human users. He has led significant interdisciplinary projects, such as the NIH-funded HELPeR (Health e-Librarian with Personalized Recommender), which utilizes "digital twins" to provide personalized medical information to patients and caregivers. A prolific scholar with over 200 publications, Dr. He’s work bridges the gap between algorithmic optimization and the social, behavioral aspects of information seeking.
