About

Dr. Abdallah is an Associate Professor of Computer and Electrical Engineering at Western Carolina University, a position he began in January 2025. Before joining WCU, he served at Penn State Erie – The Behrend College from 2017 to 2024, first as an Assistant Professor and later as a tenured Associate Professor. During his time at Penn State, he founded and directed the Internet of Things Research Lab (IoT@Behrend) and focused on wireless networks, IoT, video streaming, signal processing, and applied machine learning. Beyond academia, Dr. Abdallah's experiences bridge academic research and industry applications, supporting product development and technological innovation. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Abdallah gained extensive industry experience. He worked at Intel Corporation as an embedded systems software engineer at their advanced production and testing facility in Aloha, Oregon. He also completed graduate PhD internships at Intel, focusing on wireless and telecom standards, and at Broadcom Inc., where he contributed to interoperability testing for LTE devices. Additionally, he spent seven years as a freelance embedded systems engineer between 2025 and 2012. An active researcher, Dr. Abdallah is a regular author and reviewer for IEEE journals and conferences. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He earned his M.Sc. in Computer Engineering in 2007 and his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering in 2016 from the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. He is also a certified deep learning instructor with NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute (DLI).
